Elephants take part in a ceremony marking Mother's Day in Thailand this morning on August 12.

The creatures were at the Nong Nooch Botanical Gardens in Pattaya, eastern Thailand, where they wore blue robes.

One elephant kneeled as it placed flowers below a portrait of the Queen Mother, whose birthday today heralds the annual event, which is also a public holiday.

Another elephant patted a baby on the head in colourful scenes that additionally included several more elephants, dancers and a parade.

Her Majesty Queen Sirikit was born on August 12, 1932 and married to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, or King Rama IX, who died in October 2016 aged 88.

She has taken the title of Queen Mother after her son, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn, became the new monarch.
