More startling was the discovery of a trove of guns and ammunition at the young man’s residence, along with videos of him expertly demonstrating gun use. This incident has raised questions about the ease of gun ownership in the country.
The Siam Paragon shooting was an incident no one wished to happen, but it did. Sanook revealed some alarming statistics on civilian gun ownership and highlighted the rate of Thai fatalities due to firearms.
Thailand has the highest number of firearms in ASEAN, according to the Swiss-based Small Arms Survey. The organisation revealed that in 2017, there were over 800 million firearms globally, with the United States leading with 393 million firearms. India and China follow with 71 million and 49.7 million firearms respectively.

A rogue doctor has been apprehended in action during a live Facebook session, following allegations of injecting counterfeit substances that caused severe facial damage to victims.
The arrest operation was conducted by authorities, led by Bunlue Pudngtun, the Deputy Chief of Police, alongside Sravut Jantawong, the Commander 2nd Division, and Pratch Manadech, the Director of the 2nd Division, on October 5. The suspect, 41-year-old Thanyathip, was captured under a warrant issued by the Phol Provincial Court on September 26.
The rogue practitioner was charged with “recklessly causing serious injury to others, practising medicine without a licence, and operating a medical facility without permission.”

A man described as ‘Australian’ found himself in a harrowing situation when he allegedly attacked a fellow passenger on a flight from Bangkok to Moscow. Alexey Fursov reportedly stabbed the passenger with a fork, causing injuries to the victim’s chest, shoulder, and back during what has been described as a frenzied attack.
Dramatic footage from the flight shows the 35-year-old Fursov being subdued and detained by authorities shortly after the incident in which he stabbed a fellow passenger with a fork.
In the video, Fursov can be heard pleading for his restraints to be removed, claiming he was confused due to having been “away for four years.” Flight attendants and passengers directed him to move to the back of the plane as Fursov moaned in discomfort.

Officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested a Bangkok taxi driver who used a mobile phone left in the taxi by his passenger to steal more than 800,000 baht.
The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, filed a complaint with officers at Thong Lor Police Station on September 19 after more than 800,000 baht went missing because the victim left the mobile phone in a Bangkok taxi. The victim reportedly took the taxi from outside the CentralWorld shopping center and was dropped off at a condominium in the Khlong Toey district.
Transaction records show the money was transferred to the Bangkok taxi driver’s bank account in the name of Saichon Yotpinit. The money was also withdrawn from more than 30 ATMs in Bangkok and nearby provinces.

Eleven provinces in Thailand continue to grapple with severe flood crisis, with Kalasin and Ubon Ratchathani experiencing rising water levels, as of today.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has mobilised resources and personnel from various agencies to expedite flood relief operations. Heavy rainfall in the past has caused flooding across 35 provinces, affecting 52,290 households in 2,506 villages across 515 sub-districts and 138 districts.
Currently, flooding persists in 11 provinces, negatively impacting 20,196 households in 925 villages across 182 sub-districts and 45 districts. These provinces include Nakhon Sawan, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Chaiyaphum, Roi Et, Nong Bua Lamphu, Loei, Kalasin, and Ubon Ratchathani.

A fatal stabbing incident unfolded in Phuket yesterday morning, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old man. The 28-year-old man, Arnon Thepsong, a restaurant staffer, has been arrested under charges of assault causing death and carrying a weapon in a public place without reasonable cause. However, he asserts that the act was committed in self-defence.
The victim, Wirun Inya, a driver for the Phuket Provincial Commercial Office, was found lifeless in a hotel car park on Kra Rd, along the Bang Yai Canal, at 6 a.m. yesterday. The investigators deduced that his death had occurred several hours before the body was discovered. He had been stabbed in his left chest and had an additional wound on his back.
Evidence led the police to a restaurant around 500 meters away from the murder scene, where blood stains were found. Upon questioning the staff and scrutinizing the CCTV footage, the police zeroed in on Arnon, a staffer at the restaurant.

A Frenchman took to social media to accuse three Thai nationals of running a huge real estate scam, luring hundreds of victims into investing in a property project in Phuket. The total loss was over 100 million baht.
The Frenchman said on his Twitter account, Swann Polydor (@soueuls) on October 7, that many people, both Thai and foreign, had invested their money in a Phuket property project called City Life Patong. Polydor said the scammers “took hundreds of millions of baht from investors and built nothing.”
Polydor revealed the identities of the alleged Thai scammers in the post, along with their pictures. Polydor said the main figure in the fraud ring was a Thai man reportedly named Sawit “Mai” Ketroj, who claimed to be the CEO of Emerald Development Group.
