Cop jailed for B30m judge bribe offer
The Criminal Court on Wednesday sentenced a former police superintendent to three years in jail for offering a bribe to a Constitution Court judge in the Thai Rak Thai Party dissolution case in 2006.
The prosecutors said that between Oct 16-22, 2006 then-Pol Col Chanchai Netirathakarn, a superintendent of Pho Kaew tambon police station in Sam Phran district of Nakhon Pathom province, offered money to a Constitution Court judge, ML Krairit Kasemsan, to decide in favour of the Thai Rak Thai Party in the party dissolution case.
ML Krairit testified to the court that Pol Col Chanchai visited him twice, at the Supreme Court and at his house, after he was appointed a Constitution Court judge. He said Chanchai offered him 15 million baht at the first meeting and 30 million baht at the second.
ML Krairit rejected the offers and notified the Supreme Court in writing about the attempted bribery.
The Criminal Court found Chanchai guilty of bribery and sentenced him to three years in jail without suspension.
