Assoc Prof Sugree Charoensook wore a metal box with a transparent front on his head to a deans' meeting at the president's office Wednesday to express his disapproval of Rajata Rajatanavin's decision decision to work as both president of the Nakhon Pathom province institution and public health minister in the Prayuth Chan-ocha cabinet.
Assoc Prof Sugree told reporters on Tuesday that the president should choose one of the jobs, not both. University president, he said, is an academic position rooted in freedom of thought, while thecabinet seat political and contradicted academic independence of thought.
The metal bucket he wore exemplified the Thai proverb that one should cover their heads with such boxes when experiencing shame.
